Dr Sahar Abu Omar is a Healthcare executive with extensive experience in complex healthcare systems and settings for over 20 years, mainly part of the drive towards value-based healthcare system in the UAE public healthcare sector for over 18 years.
Dr Abu Omar is currently holding a position of Chief Pharmacy Officer, at The Life Corner. A company established to drive excellence in Pharmacy services across UAE, staffing more than 700 Pharmacy healthcare providers and aspiring to expand to include multiple sectors of the profession.
Previous to that, Sahar held position of Clinical Integration Director in the Medical Office of Purehealth, assigned by Ministry of Presidential Affairs to provide oversight on the Sheikh Khalifa hospitals in the Northern emirates as part of HH the President of UAE initiatives. She has also served previously as the Group Clinical Integration Director at Abu Dhabi Health Services Company “SEHA”, for 7 years. Dr Abu Omar supported the healthcare reformation by leading clinical integration through development of clinical service lines and integrated clinical support services across the public healthcare sector of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi consisting of 11 Hospitals and over 50 Primary healthcare clinics, staffing over 15,000 employees.
Dr Abu-Omar serves as a member on the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi Advisory Drug Panel and is a member of the advisory board of many local pharmacy colleges. She is a founder, has chaired and still serves on the scientific committee of the annual Medication Safety Conference since 2007. She is a regular keynote speaker in regional and international healthcare conferences and forums, and has consulted many healthcare public organizations including the Department of Health Services in Dubai
Dr Abu Omar is a clinical pharmacist by profession with Master’s degree in Clinical and Health Services Pharmacy from the University of Manchester, England, UK. She is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) since 2001 and a current member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). She also serves as a member on the International Accreditation Commission of the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists (ASHP).
Previous experiences include contributing to establishing pharmacy and medication-related regulatory infrastructure for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in 2003, as a senior Pharmaceuticals Specialist at the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD), a governmental body that regulates the healthcare facilities and professionals in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. At that time, she established medication safety committee in 2003, developed the first non-punitive anonymous medication error reporting policy and tool for the Emirate, and has actively promoted medication safety awareness through public campaigns.
She also worked between 2000-2003 as pharmacy quality manager and clinical pharmacist in King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
